At our practice we have three ultrasound devices. One is a very large device which renders very sharp images but cannot be moved. Therefore, this device is especially destined to pets. The other two devices are movable and can therefore be deployed with horses, cattle, sheep etc. The smallest device is the most practical for gynaecology because it has a battery and enables us to scan on any location.
With horses we will use the ultrasound especially for the follow-up of an artificial insemination (with fresh or frozen sperm) and to scan tendons in case of tendinitis for example.
With cattle and sheep this is mostly used to determine whether the animal is pregnant.
This can be performed at a very early stage (15 days in horses, 20 days in cattle).
